Today in Class

Today in class we worked on massing models. We were playing around with sweeps, lofts, sheering, and voids.

Weekly Sketch

For this week, you are to sketch a massing study driven by your design concept. Within this sketch there are two objectives: (1) through massing forms or volumes show how your concept will shape the space and (2) begin to explore spatial adjacencies indicated by the program document. For this sketch you are focused on forms and not on placing walls, ceilings, or detailed architectural elements.

Weekly Sketch #3

Sketch out your design proposal for the roof using top, front, and side views. To accomplish this you will have to explore different roof types. Within your sketches use varying line weights and types to convey the edges, ridges, and valleys.

The roofs that I chose to do are roofs that I consider to be more modern. The "angled roof" angles off in two different directions. The largest part of the roof slants downward towards the front of the building while the two smaller roofs on the slide slant downward towards the back of the building.
The "lifted roof" rests slightly above the top edge of the building, hoping to make it look like the roof is floating on top of the building.

Weekly Sketch #2

We ask that you continue to explore the new building for NEXT University by further sketching out the details of the building. Sketch out the Front Exterior Elevation (West Elevation) and cut a building section through the middle of the building. Call out dimensions and note building components and materials. Include a roof.
